A pencil seems to be a very simple tool. But how to unravel its full potential?
We will start the workshop by getting acquainted with composition and measuring proportions. Then we will learn how to build the shape of an object, and how to reveal the volume with tone graduation. We will learn how to think with a pencil and how to make an illusion of a 3D object on a 2D sheet of paper. Two hours are not enough to make a completely finished portrait with pencil (which in the academy usually takes 40 hours), but this short workshop will give the participants an understanding of the main principles of how to use this tool.
This workshop will be useful for beginners, but also professionals who would like to add some structured knowledge to the intuitive process of creation.
The workshop will be held in English, with the possibility to ask specific questions or to get an additional individual explanation in German, Ukrainian, or Russian.
The workshop will be led by Alina Kopytsa @alinka_nealinka (IG) an artist with a classical education in academic drawing in Ukraine and a BA from the Zurich University of the Arts, experienced in working with a wide spectrum of techniques. She has been giving workshops and artist talks for 10 years in different places, her projects having been presented in galleries, biennale, and international film festivals.
